Upgradable to Matter*
Matter is the emerging smart home standard that provides secure and local integration with all big-name smart home platforms, including Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Home Assistant, Hubitat, and Homey Pro. Currently, the Matter specification does not support garage door opener device types, but when it does, Konnected is committed to supporting this game-changing standard on all of our GDOv2 models.
Note: Upgrading to Matter will require re-flashing the device firmware with a computer and USB cable.
*Konnected’s Garage Door Opener is not (yet) Matter certified. Join our early-access program to stay up-to-date with development.
Built on Open Source
Konnected’s new GDO is built on entirely open source software, made with high-quality genuine components, and assembled with love in the USA. We designed it with an emphasis on choice, privacy, and local control – because we believe that the technology that you bring in your home is yours to own. The GDOv2’s firmware configuration is published here on GitHub and is built upon these primary open-source libraries:
- esphome-ratgdo (GPL v2)
- esphome (ESPHome License)
- esp-idf (Apache v2)
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my garage door opener is compatible?
The GDO blaQ is designed for Chamberlain/LiftMaster garage door openers with yellow, red, orange, blue, purple, or brown learn button, including those with myQ built-in. It should only be used with sectional garage doors, not one-piece or swinging garage doors.
If your garage door opener is NOT one of these brands, or has a different color learn button, try our GDO White.
How does it work?
Konnected’s new GDO blaQ can talk directly to your Chamberlain or LiftMaster Security+ 2.0 garage door opener by simply connecting three wires to the back of the motor unit. Security+ 2.0 is an encrypted serial protocol developed by the Chamberlain Group and recently reverse-engineered by some very clever engineers (see here and here) who have published open source libraries. Thanks to this technology, we can now interact directly with your yellow-button garage door opener to privately retrieve rich data and send commands.
Will my existing garage door remotes (car, wall, and outside keypad) still work?
Yes, of course, they will still work. Konnected only makes your garage smarter; it doesn't take away any existing features.
Why choose Konnected’s GDO blaQ instead of myQ?
myQ is the Chamberlain Group’s very popular (and cheap) answer to smart garage control, but we think it’s pretty dumb. Chamberlain’s myQ provides an app for controlling your garage door thru their cloud service, which means if the internet goes out, so does your smart garage. Also, Chamberlain recently announced that they’re actively preventing access to myQ via third-party apps, cutting off access to myQ through SmartThings, Home Assistant, Hubitat and most other smart home platforms.
We believe that a smart home is an integrated home – where the garage door opener is part of a larger, openly connected collection of devices in your home, controllable locally and/or through a cloud platform or app of your choice – not one you’re forced into.
Contrary to myQ's stance, Konnected supports integration with a multitude of DIY and open-source smart home apps, provides local access and control thru APIs and customizable firmware, and is committed to supporting evolving smart home industry standards including Matter.
Can I still use myQ with blaQ?
Yes, you can continue to use myQ in parallel with the Konnected GDO blaQ.
Why choose Konnected’s GDO blaQ instead of ratgdo?
ratgdo (Rage Against the Garage Door Opener) is the open source project that inspired and powers the Konnected’s GDO blaQ. It’s a DIY control board and software that pioneered the direct serial connection to the encrypted Security+ openers. We’ve taken the concept and technology in ratgdo and made it into a finished product, suitable for installation in any home, and compliant with regulations in the United States. We’ve added safety features like an audible and visual warning, a sleek plastic enclosure, integrations with a variety of smart home platforms, 7-days per week support and a 1-year warranty.
Yes, the GDO blaQ costs a few dollars more than a ratgdo board. We are not competing on price with the original ratgdo. We believe that the GDO blaQ justifies the higher price because of the additional compliance, safety, support and integration features.
What if I have more than one garage door?
Konnected's GDO monitors and controls a single garage door opener. You'll need one Konnected Smart Garage Door Opener product per garage door.
Is there an audible and visual warning before closing the garage door?
Yes, for safety, the GDO blaQ gives you visual (blinking) and audible (beeping) warnings for ~5 seconds before it triggers the garage door to close.
Warning tunes are customizable!
Does it meet U.S. safety regulations?
Yes, the GDOv2-Q was designed to meet the U.S. safety regulations in 16 CFR § 1211.14 for the unattended operation of a residential garage door opener.
The device should only be used with a sectional garage door. Do not use with one-piece or swinging doors.
Are there monthly fees?
There are no ongoing fees to use Konnected's GDOs. In the future, we may introduce optional premium features for a fee.
How is it powered?
It is powered with a regular power adapter (included).
What smart home platforms or apps does it work with?
Konnected's GDO works with Home Assistant and Hubitat via a 100% local integration using the ESPHome native API.
It also works with SmartThings and Alexa via a connection to Konnected's free Konnected Cloud service.
When will Matter compatibility be ready?
We really don't know. At the present time, there is no a Matter specification for garage door openers. We're watching the Matter release schedule closely and are expecting to start testing a Matter compatible firmware as soon as the device specification is made available by the Matter working group.
You can join our Matter early-access program to stay informed of the progress.
Is there an API for the device?
Yes! Konnected's GDO family have a full-featured and local REST API, as well as the ESPHome Native API. See API Reference.
Does it work with Control4?
Yes, GDO blaQ works with Control4. It's requires an extra-fee driver that you can get here. It's important to know that one paid site license for GDO blaQ Control4 driver can cover multiple GDO blaQ devices under one customer's project - for example a household with two garage doors that require two GDO blaQs.

easy Install
The Install went well. Most of the time was spent setting up my amazon device. Completed all of it before installing it in the garage. Wiring it in was 10 minutes. I'm loving it.... R Bertrand
GDO BlaQ - OMG!!!
It took me 15 minutes to take down my old Linear Z-Wave garage door controller and 5 minutes to put this one up. In another 10 I had it in Hubitat, flawlessly controlling th door with no additional sensors to worry about. The GDOv2-Q driver with child devices enabled is a work of art, exposing everything about the opener - The light, the motion detector, obstruction detection. Best preorder I’ve ever done!
Super Impressive!
I got my GDO blaQs! 2x installed in under 15 mins. They were super simple to set up and it’s amazing how quickly I had full integration with all my smart home services. I run a Hubitat setup which instantly grandfathered in HomeKit support. Now everything works flawlessly with Apple Home as well and all nested under my local system. Total touchdown. A quick shout out for the whole Konnected company…a fantastic CEO leading a fantastic innovative team with great products and great tech support!
